It is a misconception that financial aid only goes to those
without money. Financial aid is offered to ALL groups and brackets to
income (with the lower having more). If you fail to fill out the FAFSA,
you are ineligible for Federal Student Aid. That's refusing to take
free money! Another misconception is that you have to have a 4.0 to get
a scholarship. IT'S NOT TRUE. All you need is some time devoted to
filling out applications and writing some essays.
Seniors, you need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for
Federal Student Aid) as soon as your parent's file theirs taxes
(Usually February)
In addition to the FAFSA, some 4-year universities want the
applicant to also fill out the Collegeboard CSS Profile.
Looking for scholarships? These websites have TONS of scholarships. All you
have to do it take the time to find the right scholarships for you.
Some require essays, some require NO ESSAYS, only an application. Most
scholarships require at least one recommendation and a copy of your
official school transcript. The deadlines for scholarships can range
anywhere from November of your Senior year to March of your senior
year. A word of caution though, most of the large value ($10000+)
scholarships have deadlines before Christmas, so do your research
early! Under NO circumstances
should you have to PAY to
receive scholarship information!
Did you know Juniors can also apply for some scholarships? Seniors
AND Juniors, start filing for scholarships ASAP.
